September 14, 2006 –Today at the Fire-Rescue International show in Dallas, LifeGuard Technologies, a division of IMMI, introduced LifeGuard SmartDock, the first hands-free SCBA holder for fire trucks.
The seat-based SmartDock provides single-motion installation of the SCBA, holds it securely in the seat while in transit, and releases using no straps or levers. This hands-free operation gives firefighters valuable time to buckle up and focus on getting safely to and from the scene. In the event of a collision, SmartDock is designed to protect firefighters by containing the SCBA and preventing it from becoming a dangerous projectile.
"Everything we do is designed to maximize the safety of vehicle occupants," said Tom Humphrey, General Manager of LifeGuard Technologies. "SmartDock is one more way we’re accomplishing that. In addition to containing the SCBA in a collision, SmartDock also has the added benefit of being a hands-free system. Eliminating straps and release levers gives firefighters extra time to do their jobs safely and effectively."
SmartDock adjusts to accommodate SCBA’s of various makes and models, and has been tested at the Center for Advanced Product Evaluation to meet or exceed all applicable NFPA 1901 standards. It has also been dynamically tested in excess of 20 g’s.
SmartDock is available in Fall of 2006, exclusively on Pierce fire apparatus.
