About IMMI > Our History

During the 1990's, Indiana Mills helped Chrysler® design the first integrated child seat for minivans. Through continuous safety innovation, Indiana Mills remains the leading producer of child safety restraints in the United States.

IMCO invents BoatBuckle, the first retractable transom tie-down. The self-storing BoatBuckle becomes an instant hit with boat owners and is soon followed by other innovations for the avid sportsman such as the SportsBuckle and Hunt Buckle.

Indiana Mills earns ISO9001 Certification.

IMMI helps truck drivers sleep more safely with the introduction of the heavy truck tented sleeper restraint.

Rollover Impact Test Machine is built. After research shows that more than 50 percent of all heavy truck fatalities involved a rollover, IMMI builds the world's first rollover test machine to evaluate commercial vehicle rollovers in a controlled and repeatable environment.

The machine is able to simulate the occupant's position relative to the tire contact point. Its adjustable mounting allows for various cab orientations.

Indiana Mills earns QS9000 Certification

IMMI introduces the S4 (Suspension Seat Safety System), a seat and occupant pretensioning system that, in the event of a severe frontal impact, provides maximum survivable space.

CAPE, the Center for Advanced Product Evaluation, opens.

CAPE is the only facility in the world built specifically for crash testing commercial vehicles. It incorporates barrier, sled, static pull and rollover crash tests with digital imaging, data acquisition, applied mechanics, and motion analysis to paint a whole picture of a product for a customer.
