About IMMI > Our History

Auto Safe Corp. is born in a one-room office in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. It begins with 2 sewing machine operators, a web cutter, and a part-time secretary. The sewers produced 80 automotive lap seat belts a day. The belts are sold through distributors and dealers for after-market installation.

As the business begins to grow, additional employees are added, bringing with them new sewing techniques. Soon, each sewer is producing more than 160 belts per day.

In early 1967, Auto Safe changes its name to Indiana Mills & Manufacturing, Inc.
