Tom Anthony, President
Tom Anthony is the President of IMMI® in Westfield, Indiana, overseeing the company in its entirety. Tom has been with IMMI for 30 years, joining the child and outdoor divisions in the spring of 1998. He was responsible for their performance as separate business units. Tom then became IMMI’s Chief Executive Officer in May 2001. Prior to joining the child and outdoor divisions, Tom was the Business Unit Manager for the Marine Division of IMMI, known as IMCO (Indiana Marine Company). He held this position from 1993 to the spring of 1998. Before managing IMCO, Tom was the General Manager of his grandfather’s business, UHL (Uniform Hood Lace) and has also been active in many areas of IMMI since 1982. Part of this time Tom attended the University of Indianapolis. Tom and his wife Shellie have identical twin daughters, Ronnie Elizabeth and Renee Alexandra (which Tom has informed us are more than twice the work, but at least 10 times the fun of a single child!). In his spare time, Tom finds outdoor activities appealing, including boating, skiing, and fishing.
Larry Gray, Chief Executive Officer
Larry is the Chief Executive Officer of IMMI in Westfield, Indiana. He joined the company in June of 2001 as a Research and Development Engineer. He served as Program Manager for the design and release of the SafeGuard®school bus seat. In May of 2004 Larry was promoted to Director of R&D. Prior to joining IMMI, Larry worked for Porter Engineered Systems Inc. as Engineering Manager. Work included – automotive seat recliners (power and manual) and seating sub systems. Prior to that, he worked for Atwood Mobile Products/Excel Industries as a Senior Project Engineer. Work included – automotive seating and compliance systems. Larry graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and technology in 1994. He is a member of Society of Automotive Engineers and Society of Mechanical Engineers. He has been awarded five United States patents and has filed four additional. Larry and his wife Regina have two sons, Larry III and Michael. In his spare time, Larry enjoys spending time with his family and working around the home.
James Johnson, Vice President of Sales
James Johnson is Vice President of Marketing and Business Development for IMMI, based in Westfield, Indiana. During his 21-year tenure with the company, he has been instrumental in leading efforts to integrate advanced occupant protection on a wide range of commercial vehicles, from school buses to heavy trucks. James utilizes his knowledge of occupant protection to advance the cause of occupant safety in the U.S., serving as a frequent speaker on school bus safety, rollover protection and child passenger safety. During the development and integration of lap-shoulder belts on school buses, he worked closely with NHTSA to define testing methodology that validates the performance of seating products. Since joining IMMI in 1991, he has held positions in customer service, account management, program management and most recently as Vice President of Sales. James graduated with his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in 1990 and is a former ordnance officer in the U.S. Army. He is a native of southeast Indiana. He and his wife Angie live in Westfield.
Kevin Boen, Chief Financial Officer
Kevin brings extensive international financial experience to IMMI through his work in Europe and Asia for Maxon, a division of Honeywell. While serving as Maxon’s Director of Finance, Kevin strategically led and directly managed a large account team where he handled all the financial functions for the company including budgeting, forecasting, accounting, controlling and reporting. Kevin is a Certified Public Accountant as well as a Chartered Global Management Accountant. A graduate of Ball State University, Kevin and his wife reside in Muncie, where he serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Club of Muncie and volunteers as treasurer of his church.
Dan Salmons, Vice President of Operations, Purchasing, PC&L, and Chief Lean Officer
Dan Salmons is the Vice President of Operations, Purchasing, PC & L, and Chief Lean Officer at IMMI. He attended college at Tri State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering and Bachelors of Science in Business from Tri State’s International School of Business. Prior to joining IMMI 8 months ago, he worked with at Delphi Electronics and Safety where he was the managing director of the Asia Pacific Electronic Controls Business Unit. He currently lives in Noblesville with his three sons and attends White River Christian Church. Dan enjoys biking, jogging, the outdoors, family and friends.
Lisa Hanson, Director of Corporate Quality Assurance
Lisa Hanson is the Director of Corporate Quality Assurance at IMMI. She has studied at Purdue University where she obtained a Bacelors of Science in Electrical Engineering, and she studied at Kettering University where she obtained an MSE degree. Prior to joining IMMI, she worked at Delphi Electronics and Safety as the Director of Engineering for Infotainment and Driver Interface. Currently living in Carmel with her four children, she attends Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Nicholas J. Awabdy, Executive Director of Engineering
Nick Awabdy began his career with IMMI in September of 2009 as a Director of Engineering where he has since been responsible for the CAD, and CAE divisions as well as seating, military, and core products. Before becoming a dedicated business person for IMMI, Nick worked for General Motors as both a Product Engineering Liaison and a Product Design Engineer for five years. Along with his career at GM, he also served as an Engineering Manager and a Senior Product design Engineer at Delphi from 1999 to 2009. Nick received his Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering at Cedarville University as well as a Master of Science in engineering science from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He participated in the Duke Leadership Program in 2009 for the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. Along with being a member of Crash Test Professionals, he is a Society of Automotive Engineers section board member and also resides on the Cedarville University Alumni Council as an Engineering Representative.
Allan Lortz, Senior Staff Engineer
With over 36 years of experience in his field, Al serves as the Senior Staff Engineer for IMMI based in Westfield, Indiana. He came to IMMI in 1976 after two brief stints with small tool shops in Indianapolis and central Michigan. Currently as Senior Staff Engineer, Al oversees as an advisor to R&D Engineering, Application Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, and Legal. He also is keen on mentoring the younger engineering staff. Al graduated, with honors, from ITT Technical Institute, in Indianapolis, in 1972 with an associate’s degree in mechanical design. He has 22 patents to his name and is also a 30 year SAE member. Al and his wife, Susie, have been married for 33 years and have two grown sons, Brian and Kevin. In addition to spending lots of time with the family, Al enjoys fishing, duck hunting, baseball, and tending to his vegetable garden in his spare time.
Julia King, Director of Program Management
Julia King joined IMMI in 2004 and currently serves as the Director of Program Management. In this role, she directs the program management department, facilitates corporate strategic planning, and leads product portfolio management initiatives. Julia previously served IMMI as Program Manager, New Product Development Manager, and Research and Development Engineer. Prior to joining IMMI, she worked for General Motors in Warren, Michigan as a Lead Airbag Systems Engineer. Julia earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a Human Resource Management degree from Purdue University. Julia and her husband Greg live in Zionsville and are the proud parents of two teenage daughters, Rachel & Sara.
Julie Cooley, Director of Corporate Marketing Communications
Julie Cooley serves as IMMI’s Marketing and Corporate Communications Director. With a strong background in journalism, promotion, and marketing for television, print, web and radio, Julie has been honored with numerous awards from the Associated Press, NBC, the Society of Professional Journalists, the Indiana Broadcasters Association, and is the recipient of eight Emmy awards. Prior to joining IMMI, Julie was the Director of Marketing and Advertising for Easy Water, FREIJE Treatment Systems. A graduate of Indiana University with a double major in journalism and history, Julie spent a total of 18 years in broadcast television, promotion, and marketing for NBC affiliate WTHR-TV, and CBS affiliate WISH-TV. A big fan of the Indianapolis Colts, (and fantasy football), Julie also enjoys golfing, gardening, playing cards, and cooking for friends and family. Julie and her husband Garth are blessed with two great kids, Grant and Jillian.
Janet White, Director of Human Resources
Janet White has been with IMMI for 22 years in the HR department. In 1991 she started out as an HR Generalist, then moved into Training Coordination, and in 1996 became Manager of Training and Development. Janet has been IMMI Director of Human Resources since May of 2010. Janet graduated from Purdue in Restaurant and Hotel Management, and went back to get her MBA in 2006 from Indiana Wesleyan University. She earned her SPHR (Senior Professional in Human Resources) in 2002 and remains active in the local HR Chapter. Janet and her husband Rex have two grown daughters, a son in law and one granddaughter. In her time away from work, Janet is very involved with her church and enjoys reading, cooking, dirt track racing and NASCAR.
